To start receiving match alerts, a channel must be set with /alerts channel [channelName]
Most people opt to make a dedicated channel such as #lol-matches as the alerts can come in frequently.
For toggling specific types of matches such as Ranked Solo, ARAM, Quickplay, etc you can use /alerts toggle [matchType]
